IRAS 265959 (CPMS 50337) - Study into the aetiology of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract: Investigation into the role of genetic variants, microbiome and immune response in gastrointestinal inflammation.

This study aims to use biopsy and blood samples taken from people with IBD to build a 3D laboratory model, or organoid, of the bowel. We will build organoids that consist of cells that contain specific genetic variants in order to gain an understanding of how these mutations influence the immune response during bacterial infection. The study is currently recruiting inflammatory bowel disease patients from the Gastroenterology departments at University College London Hospital and The Royal Free Hospital. For more information click here or if you would be interested in participating contact us.

The study runs until Sept 2026

The main focus of this study is a condition known as orofacial granulomatosis (OFG), which is characterised by disfiguring and painful swelling of the lips and oral tissues. he study aims to collect samples of blood, oral tissue, saliva, dental plaque, and oral swabs from patients with oral inflammatory conditions including sufferers of OFG, Lichen planus, Behçet’s disease, vesiculobullous disorders, gum disease, recurrent ulcers, foreign body reactions, sarcoidosis, oral candidosis, traumatic, pre-cancerous/cancerous conditions, oral ulceration, Sjögrens disease, and healthy controls. The samples will allow identification of abnormal genes, proteins and immune responses in patients with oral disease compared to healthy controls. We are currently recruiting patients from The Eastman Dental Hospital. If you are interested in taking part or would like further information please contact us.

The study runs until August 2028

IRAS 277231 - Study into Crohn's Disease Treatment Efficacy

The study in designed to uncover biomarkers that will prove predictive in regards to clinical responses to biological and surgical treatments routinely used by Crohn's disease patients. For more information please click here. The study is currently recruiting inflammatory bowel disease patients from the Gastroenterology departments at University College London Hospital and The Royal Free Hospital. If you would be interested in participating please contact us.

This study will run until July 2025

IRAS 220177 (CPMS 34016) - The Clinical and biological effects of the use of probiotic VSL#3 in patients with oral lichen planus: a preliminary proof-of-concept study

We conducted a clinical trial designed to investigate the safety and tolerance of probiotics in individuals suffering from erosive and ulcerative oral lichen planus. The study was published in Oral Diseases in 2021. To read the paper please click here. The study received support from Ferring Pharmaceuticals Ltd, UK whom provided the funding for the study and supplied the probiotic and placebo single-use sachets. The study recruited participants from the Eastman Dental Hospital and was conducted in the Eastman Clinical Investigations Centre.
